In the
past, tape backup or data archiving had been a very popular method of
choice when backing up or restoring large quantities of data to and from
mainframes and servers. Mini-cartridges were introduced in the 90’s to
the home user as a backup remedy, but were slow and lacked storage
capability. Some companies still rely on tape technology today. While
usually reliable and affordable, this media could also succumb to the
need for recovery service. Very few companies retain or support this
media today. Not to worry. Excalibur continues to support many
products created under a variety of platforms. Unix (tar and cpio)
remain our specialty.
Do you
have a tape with a bad header? Are you experiencing BOT/EOT errors? Is
your backup session incomplete? Are you reusing an older backup session
(or so you thought) and reformatted or overwrote critical data? Did
your tape deteriorate or break? Vandalism? Sabotage? Smoke or fire
damage? Whether you have ½”, ¼”, 4mm, 8mm, DLT, DAT or DDS …
cartridges or reels … in many of these situations, we just might be one
of the few recovery houses left that can assist you.
